Bannie Lee Carter (1896 - 1981)

I don't actually have a picture of Bannie.   This is a page (from ancestry.com) of  the 1900 Federal Census for Dixon, Pike County, Alabama.  Bannie is 4 years old.

Bannie's father, John Carter, is 30 years old and has been married 9 years; therefore, he was 21 when he married Jennie Prestwood.

Jennie Prestwood Carter is 28 years old so she was 19 when she married John.  She has 5 children and all are still living:  Daniel, Marcus, Bannie L., Eva Eunice, and Baby.  I think the baby was Marenda Carter, named after John Carter's mother.  She died the following year.

One thing that is interesting is that the Graves family and the Miles family are also on this page of the census.  They lived close to each other (just 5 and 6 doors down the road).  Those of you that live in Pike County,  probably think this is obvious.  However, for me, it was exciting to learn they were such close neighbors.  I'll share more information about them later.

So, what do you think?
